Garnishes is the exclusive in-house catering service with experienced event planners who are happy to assist you in catering your event. Receptions, coffee breaks, buffets, formal dinners, picnics, and other types of events are easily accommodated by our professional team.
As a full-service caterer, our all-inclusive pricing includes service staff, linens, and china for events hosted in the New York Room or the Presidential Dining Room in Cooper Hall. Pick up and drop off options are also available.
How to book an event
Begin by utilizing our Catering Request Form to help you think through the details of your event. Then, mail or fax the completed form to Garnishes or call us to review the details over the phone. It is best to contact Garnishes at least 20 days in advance to reserve space for your event. Earlier reservations will assist in obtaining the date and room of your choice.
Event details need to be finalized at least 7 days prior to the event. A Special Events Contract signed by the person requesting the services will confirm the event. All campus groups who require a purchase order must present it when signing the contract.
Room and Table Set Up
The atmosphere, as well as the meal itself, can make or break an event. Discuss your ideas with a Garnishes Event Planner so we can help you portray the desired theme. The following rooms are available depending on the size of your group.
New York Room in Cooper Hall accommodates banquet seating for 200 and receptions up to 400.
Presidential Dining Room in Cooper Hall accommodates banquet seating for 40 and receptions up to 75.
The guarantee count is the minimum number of people for which there will be a charge regardless of the attendance. This number should be submitted no less than 5 business days prior to the event.
Pick-up & Delivery
Events hosted outside of the New York Room or the Presidential Dining Room in Cooper Hall will be charged a delivery fee. Delivery fees are charges for transportation of food and/or supplies from our premises to a requested location. These fees vary based on event requirements.
Garnishes catering is a service offered by Brockport Auxiliary Service Corporation (BASC). BASC is the sole provider of food and beverage at The College at Brockport and has the right of first refusal for all catering on campus. This policy supports the relationship between BASC and the campus, helps promote safe food handling practices, and protects the public. On rare occasions when BASC is unable to meet the food needs of the event, food waivers are permitted in non-BASC facilities. The waiver process ensures that all foods served on campus comply with applicable local, state, and federal laws and that legal responsibility for the food is documented. Applicable liability insurance, food permits, etc. can take up to 30 days to complete. Therefore, it is important to contact Garnishes early in your planning process. Why is BASC the exclusive food service provider on campus?
BASC is a non-profit 501c(3) corporation with a contract with The College at Brockport to provide specific services, including food service. As the licensed food service provider on campus, our talented team of chefs and culinary professionals are in the business of providing quality services that meet customers’ needs. In addition to providing outstanding services, BASC contributes financially to the College. This means that when you utilize Garnishes catering you’re reinvesting in the College and student success.
What is a food waiver?
A food waiver provides a documented process to help ensure that food consumption on campus complies with all applicable local, state, and federal laws.
Why do I need a food waiver?
BASC is the sole campus entity licensed for food services at The College at Brockport. Therefore, any food provided by another source requires a food waiver. By obtaining appropriate documentation from groups/individuals via the food waiver process, BASC is helping to ensure that all foods served on campus comply with applicable local, state, and federal laws and that legal responsibility for the food is cited accordingly.
What is the process for obtaining a food waiver?
The first step is to discuss your food needs with Garnishes. If it is determined that Garnishes cannot or chooses not to provide the service they will provide you with the requirements to complete a Food Waiver Request. Your Food Waiver Request must be submitted to Garnishes Office (located in Seymour College Union) no less than 15 business days prior to the date of the event. Additional permits and/or certificates may be required to complete the food waiver process.
We are giving away pre-packaged snacks and bottled water. Do we need a food waiver?
Pre-packaged foods purchased from a manufacturer, market place, or licensed food provider do not require a temporary food permit. However, an approved food waiver is still required. Pre-packaged does not include items produced and packed on location at a store. (I.e. fruit trays, cakes, deli trays, etc.)
Are home prepared foods allowed on campus for sale or giveaway?
Food brought in from home for general public distribution/sale is strictly prohibited.
The College at Brockport's Alcohol Policy is presented in writing to any individual wishing to book a catered event which includes the serving of alcoholic beverages. This policy must be signed by the contracting party, thereby agreeing to comply with the stipulations set forth before a Special Events Contract is confirmed. As dictated by State law, no one under 21 years of age will be served alcoholic beverages at a BASC event. No one under the age of 21 may sign a contract for services involving alcohol. Two forms of identification, including one picture ID will be the required proof of age. Food and nonalcoholic beverages must be made available at all events where alcohol is served. A liquor license fee is required at some event locations. Please allow at least 30 days to obtain a liquor license.
